"Young man, what are you doing?"............ This boy thinks I am not of his species, that I am some other kind of creature, one that can be crushed under the weight of a phone book. -Valentino

Significance:Valentino is discriminated against when he comes here. People think he is strange and they think he is too different to live in Sudan. Some ignorent people think he doesn't understand anything just because he was born somewhere else. This whole journey has been difficult and even in America things are still hard for him. People look down on him and even this little boy thinks he is better then Valentino and maybe not even a whole person becuase he is so different.

Reflection: I think that this little boy has been raised completely wrong and it is almost disgusting to me that someone thinks another person can be silenced by dropping a phone book on them. They are not a fly or spider. They are a real human being and has every right to talk and can not be silenced by a phone book. I wish I could go up to that boy and tell him off.

"I saw the Lion clearly again as it trotted to the other side of the path, the boy neatly in it's jaws. The animal and it's pray dissapered into the high grass and the wailing stopped in a moment. The first boy's name was Ariath. "Sit down" Dut yelled.""- Valentino

Significance: Most children by Valentinos age had seen a lion maybe once or twice up close and that was behind three inches of glass at the zoo. But he had seen a boy been killed by a lion in the wild. It could have easily been him. They would walk for weeks and five children got taken by lions. He experienced thing people never will at a younger age then most people can imagnie them.

Reflection: Valentino was smart, he was trying to survive even then. He and his friend thought that if they were in the middle of the pack of boys they were less likely to be attacked by anything. He was trying to to survive even then I think he was smart. He knew what he had to do to get to the US and he did his best.
