Chapter 2 - Fire on the Mountain
"We will be Found"
Perspective: Ralph

Gee, This island is great. Everywhere you look it is beautiful. And it is slightly hard to get to but the mountain is a great place. And he knows where we are so we will be found eventually. A problem on it is that a little 'uns thinks he saw a beastie. A really long, giant snake. Everyone is scared of the Beastie now. It doesn't exist, there is no way a small island like this could have a giant snake. You only get them in big countries like Brazil. But he induced some of the boys to believing that there is a beastie. But we are in no danger of him eating us because we are going to be rescued by my Dad because he works for the Navy and he knows where we went down. He knows that we are on this island and we made a signal fire so when the boats come they can tell which island we are on. Jack got the hunters to set up a shift schedule so that it will always be going.

We ended up starting the fire with everyone putting a ton of dry firewood we found in one place in a pile with much ebullience. But they were too officious. I realized that I didn't know how to start a fire and Jack didn't either. But Jack pinched Piggy's specs and I used them and the sun to get a fire going. Then fire got going but we didn't have the fuel to keep the capering flames going. The fire we wanted died out and left a smoldering heap. But then the area of the forest that we got the fire wood from burst into flames and now they can see the smoke. But the problem that Piggy pointed out is that we don't know how many kids were on the plane and what if there were still some in the forest.

And then we realized that the kid who had told everyone about the beastie was gone. It was Piggy's job to keep track of them and he lost him. Now he is in the forest with a fire on the lose. But I think unlike the other boys I will be able to keep everyone organized and not have anyone else get lost. Everyone takes my orders and so I think I will be able to keep us organized and have everyone survive. We need to wait and get food and then when My dad saves us we will be better. We need to have rules every where so we don't go insane but it is exciting. Being the leader of a group of people. You are the closest thing to an adult and it is your job to lead. There is pressure but I will not let everyone down. We will be rescued. I am sure of it. I have to be.
